Drum size

The different elements that make up the drums have a size expressed in inches and which represents the diameter of the drum or cymbal.

It is difficult to recognize by eye the difference between a 20″ bass drum and a 22″ bass drum. This article gives you all sizes in inches and centimeters.

Size of main drums elements

Bass drum:
16″ = 40,64 cm
18″ = 45,72 cm
20″ = 50,8 cm
22″ = 55,88 cm
24″ = 60,96 cm
26″ = 66,04 cm

Snare drum:
10″ = 25,4 cm
12″ = 30,48 cm
13″ = 33,02 cm
14″ = 35,56 cm

Tom-tom:
8″ = 20,32 cm
10″ = 25,4 cm
12″ = 30,48 cm
13″ = 33,02 cm
14″ = 35,56 cm

Method for measuring the diameter of your drums

If your barrel has an even number of shells:
measure between opposing shells.

If your tom has an odd number of shells:
measure from one shell to the middle of the 2 opposite shells.

The shell on a drums is the part into which the tie rod that holds the strapping is screwed.
