Peart’s early influences were Gene Krupa, Mitch Mitchell, Keith Moon, Michael Giles, Ginger Baker, Michael Shrieve, and John Bonham. He moved to London, England, when he was eighteen, about which he has said: “I was seeking fame and fortune, and found anonymity and poverty. But I learned a lot about life.”

 

 

Early Career

In 1972, Peart returned to Canada and worked at his father’s farm equipment dealership while playing part-time in local bands. Phil Collins, Bill Bruford, and Billy Cobham were among his influences then.

 

Rise to Fame with Rush

In July 1974, Peart joined the Rush on the eve of their first American release and tour as he replaced Rutsey four months after the release of the band’s self-titled debut album. Alongside bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson, Peart helped transform Rush from a standard rock outfit into a progressive rock powerhouse. His first album with the band, “Fly by Night” (1975), showcased his lyrical prowess and complex drumming.
