If you compose your own original material, what are some of your favorite parts, grooves or sections you’ve created? On today’s installment, I break down a technical middle section of an original tune entitled ‘The Stars Aren’t Aligned’ for my upcoming solo CD (releasing in mid-2017).
The song consists of ongoing triplets in 4/4 (or a 12/8 feel) but displaced accents throughout the song to create rhythmic illusions of different time signatures. In this particular section, it contains a 7/8 over 12/8 feel played in either “side” of my body.
