He later attended North Texas State University, where he joined the acclaimed One O’Clock Lab Band, sharpening his skills in jazz performance and musical theory.

 

Career

Gregg’s professional breakthrough came in the summer of 1985 when he joined David Lee Roth’s band, following Roth’s departure from Van Halen. Alongside guitarist Steve Vai and bassist Billy Sheehan, Bissonette helped shape the explosive sound of Roth’s solo albums Eat ’Em and Smile (1986) and Skyscraper (1988). His drumming combined power, precision, and flair—perfectly complementing Roth’s flamboyant style.

From there, Bissonette’s career flourished. He became one of Los Angeles’ most sought-after session and touring drummers, working with artists such as Santana, Joe Satriani, Toto, Don Henley, Duran Duran, and Andrea Bocelli. In 2003, he played with Ringo Starr in his band Ringo and The Roundheads, and in 2008, he became a core member of the Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, performing worldwide and paying homage to one of his earliest influences.
