His debut album with the Chili Peppers, Mother’s Milk (1989), showcased his immense power and groove, especially on tracks like “Knock Me Down” and “Taste the Pain.” But it was Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991) that truly solidified his reputation. Smith’s drumming on hits like “Give It Away” and “Under the Bridge” perfectly balanced funk and rock with technical brilliance.

Beyond the Chili Peppers, Smith’s career has been impressively diverse. He played with Chickenfoot (featuring Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, and Michael Anthony), contributed to various Glenn Hughes projects, and even recorded with Johnny Cash, Dixie Chicks, Kid Rock, and Dua Lipa.
