In his bag the drummer must have essential tools to deal with any eventuality, whether in the studio or live, anything can happen!!
Metronom:
A song works at a tempo, played too slowly or too quickly can distort it and make it lose its essence. The metronome will allow you to be directly in the right feeling without needing several measures to feel “inside”. Previously, the metronome was mechanical, you had to wind a spring so that a pendulum gave us the “tick-tock”. Today, the electronics make it possible to connect headphones and to have all the subdivisions of time, therefore very practical. On smartphones there are also very powerful applications.
Drum key:
The tool that every drummer must have on him, in his bag, on his key ring, never to be forgotten!!
It allows you to tune the drums, unscrew the memory rings on the accessories, it is essential. It is generally standard except SONOR which has a different one.
Pliers:
It helps you out when screws of the cymbal stands are too tight. Otherwise the trick is to take the screw between your 2 sticks and turn, for a leverage effect.
Fabric tape:
We can save everything with fabric tape, it’s a bit bulky in a stick cover but it’s great in a flight of accessories. You can repair cymbal stands with broken threads, put them on skins to remove unpleasant resonances, etc… useful for everything.
Eraser and pen:
Too often forgotten, they are used all the time to correct scores, add annotations, write a structure.
Ear plugs:
Long shunned by drummers and musicians in general, they are an integral part of our lives today. The sound volume of a drums can be equivalent to the noise of a plane taking off and cause irreversible problems on our ears. Do not wait to be in pain to protect yourself, from the start of learning, you have to take the reflex to put on earplugs. Several types exist, from the simple foam plug to the silicone plug molded to your ear canal. For drummers, I recommend taking -25db protection, if the filter is good the sound will not be distorted, it will just be less loud.
