Les Batteurs de Toto – Part 2

Bonjour ! Je vous ai manqué ? Eh bien, je plaisante, je sais que ce n’est pas le cas, lol. Mais je sais que tu attends et que tu es excité pour connaitre les prochains batteurs 😉 Bon alors, c’est parti !

Les remplaçants

Parlons maintenant des super-héros, sans eux, il n’y aurai pas eu de tournées et de spectacles chaque fois que Simon tombe malade ! Merci à ces batteurs extraordinaires qui prêtent main forte chaque fois que Toto a besoin d’un remplacement temporaire.

Gregg Bissonette (1995, a remplacé Simon Phillips temporairement)

Quand Simon Phillips n’a pas pu jouer avec Toto lors de la tournée Tambu en 1995 à cause de ses problèmes de dos, il a demandé à Gregg Bissonette de le remplacer. Eh bien, peut-être que certains d’entre vous n’ont pas encore entendu parler de lui, commençons à le connaître un peu.
Gregg Bissonette est un batteur pop, rock et jazz américain né le 9 juin 1959. C’est est un batteur très complet, il peut jouer du big band jazz et de la fusion au heavy rock. Il est actuellement le tandem de Ringo à la batterie dans son groupe Ringo Starr All-Starr depuis 2008.
L’un de ses premiers enregistrements remonte à 1983 avec le célèbre trompettiste Maynard Ferguson dans “Live from San Francisco” où son frère Matt était également dans le groupe. Il a également rejoint David Lee Roth, l’ancien leader de Van Halen.

Avant de continuer, revenons à l’année 2003 ! Avant le concert de Night of the Proms, Simon est tombé gravement malade, mais comme Gregg était déjà engagé, il n’était pas disponible pour le remplacer, alors Toto a invité Ricky Lawson qui à jouer avec eux pendant 2 mois !

Ricky Lawson (2003, remplaçant temporaire de Simon Phillips)

Connu sous le nom de Ricky Lawson, William Riser III est né le 8 novembre 1954. C’était un batteur et compositeur américain. Il était musicien de session et a collaboré avec Toto, Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, George Benson, Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones pour n’en nommer que quelques-uns. Ricky a également cofondé les Yellowjackets, le groupe de jazz-fusion américain qui a remporté le Grammy Award de la meilleure performance instrumentale R&B en 1987 pour la chanson “And You Know That” de l’album Shades.
Il a commencé à jouer de la batterie à l’âge de 16 ans et était membre du groupe de jazz de son lycée. Il a obtenu une bourse d’études à l’université grâce à son talent, son talent en natation. Ouais! En plus d’être batteur, il pratiquait également le water-polo et la natation. Mais il n’a passé qu’un an à l’université parce qu’il a été invité à jouer de la batterie pour Stevie Wonder. Dans les années 80 et 90, il était le batteur de Whitney Houston et Michael Jackson.
Voici une petite anecdote pour Ricky Lawson, vous êtes-vous déjà demandé quel était son solo préféré dans sa carrière ? Eh bien, son solo préféré est tiré de la chanson à succès de Whitney Houston, I Will Always Love You. Devinez quoi ? Avant que Whitney n’entame le refrain, il y a cette note, un coup sur les toms, et selon lui, oui, c’est son solo préféré de sa carrière !

Le 13 décembre 2013, alors qu’il se produisait au club de jazz Spaghettini, il est soudainement devenu désorienté. Il a ensuite été diagnostiqué avec un anévrisme cérébral et traité au Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. Mais après 10 jours, son assistance respiratoire a été retirée et, à l’âge de 59 ans, il est décédé le 23 décembre 2013.
Mais attendez! Faisons un retour en arrière avant le concert de Night of the Proms 2003 ! Avant que Toto contacte Gregg Bissonette et Ricky Lawson à l’époque où Simon était malade, ils n’ont que très peu de temps pour trouver un remplaçant. Comme nous savons tous que tous les héros ne portent pas de cape, quelqu’un est venu et a offert un coup de main à Toto, et ce n’est autre que Jon Farriss !

Jon Farriss (2003, remplace temporairement Simon Phillips)

Jonathan James Farriss est né le 10 août 1961. C’est un batteur né à Perth, en Australie occidentale. Il est également le membre fondateur du groupe de rock INXS. En 2003, il remplace temporairement Simon Phillips pour quelques concerts.
Jon a également joué sur la chanson des Beatles “With A Little Help from My Friends ” en février 2013 pendant que Ringo Starr chante. C’est à ce moment-là que le All Starr Band de Ringo s’est produit à Sydney. Il a également été invité sur scène par Nile Rodgers à l’Opéra de Sydney.
En 2010, Jon a coproduit INXS album hommage Original Sin. Il présentait des artistes tels que John Mayer, Rob Thomas, Ben Harper et bien plus encore.
