Rise to Fame

Tyler achieved her first major success in 1976 with the release of Lost in France. However, it was her 1977 hit It’s a Heartache that transformed her into an international star. The song reached the Top 10 in several countries and showcased the raspy vocal style that would become her trademark.

Interestingly, her unique voice became even more distinctive after surgery to remove vocal nodules in the late 1970s. On 6 May 2026, Tyler underwent emergency surgery to treat a perforated intestine and was placed under induced coma. She suffered cardiac arrest and was resuscitated when the doctors attempted to bring her out of the coma. On 12 May, Tyler remained seriously ill but stable. On 15 June, she woke up from the induced coma but remained very unwell. And on 8 July 2026, at the age of 75, Bonnie Tyler died due to complications from her illness.
