When Guns N’ Roses released their cover of “Since I Don’t Have You” in 1993 on The Spaghetti Incident?, they were doing something unexpected. On stage, Sorum’s drumming would swell slightly louder than on the record, matching the intensity of the crowd and adding an emotional pulse to the song’s melancholy atmosphere. The beat acted like a steady hand, guiding the audience through the bittersweet performance.

The cover also earned special attention with its music video, featuring actor Gary Oldman as the devil. While the visuals grabbed headlines, it was the song’s arrangement—and especially the rhythmic discipline—that made the cover resonate. Almost thirty years later, Guns N’ Roses’ version remains one of the most surprising and memorable tracks in their catalog.
